Type of hike: Interior Backcountry Day Hike, Looped
Difficulty: Demanding
Time: 3.5 to 5 hours
Distance: 11 kms / 6.9 miles

The hike time for this trail includes the Foam Lake Extension, it adds 45 minutes onto your total time, but the view from the Foam Lake Lookout is one of the best views in the park!

This trail is a great workout because of the elevation gain and loss. Pull into the Rabbit Blanket Lake Campground and park at the office parking lot. Walk about 100 yards down the road to reach the trailhead. After trekking for about 15 minutes on mostly rolling hills, you will come to a large map that is posted on a big sign. The map shows the trail route.

The next 25 minutes is very hilly and you will work up a good sweat. At around the 40 minute mark you will come to an intersection, stay left. Proceed for 15 minutes more uphill to reach the first lookout on your map. From here, you will view to the southeast for a great look at Peat Lake. It is only two minutes farther to the second lookout which views towards the Northwest and Old Woman Bay. Just past lookout #2 another few minutes is the third lookout. This viewing spot gives you a more panoramic vista of the area.

About fifteen minutes from the third lookout, there is a fork in the trial - stay right to finish the Peat Mountain Trial OR go left to add on the Foam Lake Extension. When adding on the extension; from here it will take you around 20 minutes of tough walking to get to the Foam Lake Lookout. This is one of the best views in the park. You can see ridges, and valleys formed from glacial activity.

After a well-deserved break, descend down the trial (for 20 minutes) to the shores of Foam Lake. It is called Foam Lake because of the foam on the shore-minerals in the lake and the wave aciton from wind causes the formation of the foam.

A short distance from here is the only campsite on this trail. It is a nice campsite with plenty of room. From this point, it is around a 40 minute hike back to the first intersection. From this intersection it is approximately an additional 40 minutes back to the parking lot.

Note: Times will vary depending on the weather, trail conditions, and physical conditioning. This is only a general scenic guide; refer to your park map available at the Agawa Bay Visitors Centre or Park Office at Red Rock. Check with the park staff for up to date trail conditions.
