Type of hike: Interior Backcountry Day Hike, Looped
Difficulty: Easy - Family
Time: 1 hour
Distance: 2.5 kms / 1 mile
This is a great trail if you are new to the sport of hiking or looking for a hike the whole family can enjoy.
Park your vehicle at the Rabbit Blanket campground entrance. Cross Highway 17 N to locate the trailhead. It is an easy walk to the fork in the trail (about 20 minutes), go right at this junction for a 20 - 30 minute loop, and then, return back to the trailhead.
Well forested, this mostly flat trail follows the South Old Woman River which contains Brook Trout. NOTE: Apparently, Brook Trout consume their own weight in flies each day!
This trail does not have any panoramic lookouts, but has a quiet, soothing atmosphere - you can always hear the trickling of the water flowing down the river and are surrounded by cedars, pines, birch, and poplar trees.
Don’t forget your camera or maybe you’d like to do some sketching?
Note: Times will vary depending on the weather, trail conditions, and physical conditioning. This is only a general scenic guide; refer to your park map available at the Agawa Bay Visitors Centre or Park Office at Red Rock. Check with the park staff for up to date trail conditions.
